Hot weather is around the corner! Getting the most out of summer swimming

As the weather warms up, there’s no place more inviting than the water. When the hot Australian sun is shining, the beach and the pool are the best places to cool off and have fun! Summer is full of exciting water based events and activities, and it’s an excellent time for kids to boost their swimming skills. Athletes and beginners alike can reap wonderful benefits in the water this summer.

Australia is renowned for its gorgeous beaches, and there are so many fantastic reasons to frequent your local beach this summer. Swimming in the ocean is great for the skin, therapeutic for allergy and asthma sufferers and it has wonderful mental health benefits. It’s also an excellent fun, and free, environment for spending a day out with friends and family. Beaches host exciting community events over the summer months, such as surfing competitions, triathlons and swimming races. These events are great to watch as spectators, but they are also fantastic opportunities for advanced swimmers to get involved in. Beaches in Western Australia are rich with marine life, so snorkelling and scuba diving are also wonderful activities for advanced swimmers to take part in during the summer months. If you’re lucky, you might see baby turtle hatchlings along the Western Australian coastline in late February!

Occasionally in Australia, summer days can be extremely hot; so hot that most people just want to lounge around indoors with the air conditioner on full throttle. It is not easy to exercise in extreme heat, and kids can get very bored being cooped up inside all day. The perfect solution to days like these is the local indoor swimming pool! Going for an indoor swim allows you to beat the heat, have a great workout, and allows the kids expend their energy without the risk of sunburn or heat stroke.

If you’re lucky enough to own a backyard pool, you’ll likely be spending a lot of your summer in it, and your friends and family will expect an invite on hot days! Pool parties are a wonderful way to socialise, and spent hot days outdoors without the heat stifling the get together. Mobile swimming lessons in the family pool are a wonderful way for adults and children to have fun, socialise, and learn important safety and life-saving skills. Summer is the perfect season to spend extra time in the water focusing on difficult skills, and improving overall technique.

Swimming as often as you can is the best way to get the most out of summer in Australia. The weather is hot, the beaches are pristine and gorgeous, the local pool is beckoning and the opportunities for fun and adventure are boundless. It’s definitely time to start counting down the days!
