Which Level?

If you're unsure which class to enrol into, here's a guide to help you choose the most appropriate level.

All infant classes are grouped according to age until 3 years old. Enrol your child according to their age on day 1 of lessons.

  • 3-12 months = Infant 1
  • 12-18 months = Infant 2
  • 18-24 months = Infant 3
  • 24-30 months = Infant 4
  • 30-36 months = Infant 5

As soon as swimmers turn 3, they will enter into our Beginner program. This program is designed to get swimmers to successfully participate in group classes without a parent. As a result, parents will be slowly eased out of the class, but will remain close to poolside for support. This program is also ideal for swimmers under the age of 5 who may be timid or fearful of the water, as the classes have a maximum of 4 swimmers. Once each swimmer completes the program, they will move onto either Stage 1 or Stage 2 (teacher assessed) regardless of age.

Our program utilises the Royal Life Saving Swim & Survive curriculum. Please note that this program is purely skill based, not age based (unless under the age of 5) - e.g a 6yo is not automatically in Stage 6, they must be able to complete all of Stage 5 skills first.

See here for a list of levels and associated skills. If your child can complete ALL skills in a given level confidently and competently, please enrol them in the next level up. If your child cannot complete all skills in a level, enrol them in the level that there are still skills to complete - ie, if they cannot complete 10m Freestyle with breathing in Stage 3, but they can complete everything in Stage 2, enrol them into Stage 3.

If your child has participated in VacSwim or in-term lessons with the Education Department, our levels are similar but not the same. Please use the link above to see skills, or send us an email for clarification.

Our Adult Classes are based on skill and ability. If you feel that you can relate to one or more of the points below, enrol into the associated class. These classes focus on your personal goals, whilst following a program. As you progress, you will be able to master new skills and learn to move through the water with ease.
